Presented by Santa Cruz Dance and the Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center: The Santa Cruz Ethnic Dance Festival is a two day celebration of dance from a variety of the worlds cultures. In keeping with Santa Cruz Dance’s commitment of raising public consciousness to the values, importance and contributions of dance to our daily lives and culture, the festival features a myriad of sliding-scale dance classes plus an afternoon of performances by some of the areas most accomplished dance artists.
Within Santa Cruz there exists an extraordinary appreciation for and curiosity of many artistic traditions. That is perhaps especially true of Ethnic Dance. From the devotee’s of West African to the scholars of Indonesian, dance has captured our hearts individually and collectively.
The Mission of the Santa Cruz Ethnic Dance Festival is to create a space where people of varying backgrounds are able to come together in celebration to watch, instruct, and communally practice dance from different regions and cultures of the world. This event will broaden the Santa Cruz communities’ consciousness, exposure, and interest to world dance.
Santa Cruz Dance's vision for the Santa Cruz Ethnic Dance Festival is to work with artists, organizations and communities, to advance cultural understanding, and to achieve universal appreciation and support of the world’s diverse dance traditions as a vital and essential part of daily life.
